The next two days are set to be busy for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is being headed to the United Arab Emirates today for two days and will engage in bilateral meetings, enhancing cooperation in energy, ports, digital infrastructure, and investment flows.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), it marks the prime minister’s seventh visit to the UAE since 2015 and the third in the last eight months. Let’s examine the agenda of the PM’s visit and why this visit holds significance.

Expectations from PM Modi’s UAE visit

Bilateral meetings are expected to be held by the Prime Minister with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president, prime minister, and defense minister of the UAE.
The grand BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister during his visit.
The diaspora will also be met by the Prime Minister during his time in the UAE.
The announcement of the Prime Minister’s visit followed UAE President Al Nahyan’s visit to India in September for the G20 Leaders Summit and his attendance as the Chief Guest at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January.
Stronger ties with the UAE have been a focus for PM Modi since his landmark visit to the West Asian country in August 2015, as reported by First Post.
The two countries are among each other’s top trading partners, with a bilateral trade of about $85 billion in 2022-23, according to official data.
During the visit, discussions will be held between PM Modi and the UAE president to further deepen, expand, and strengthen the strategic partnership between the countries.
Agreements to enhance cooperation in several key areas are likely to be inked following the talks.
PM Modi will also meet with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during his visit.
The Indian premier will participate in the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai as the guest of honor and deliver a special keynote address at the summit.
The BAPS Mandir, the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, will be inaugurated by PM Modi.
A speech will be delivered by Modi to over 40,000 people at a stadium event in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City, titled “Alhan Modi” (Welcome Modi in Arabic), reported ANI.

The focus on boosting cooperation in areas of energy, ports, fintech, digital infrastructure, railways, and investment flows is aimed by PM Modi with the latest visit.
Firming up understandings in areas of ports, logistics, energy security, energy trade, and digital domain, among others, is being looked at by both sides, as mentioned by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, reported ANI.
Possible cooperation in the areas of maritime heritage as well as fintech products and railways is being examined by the two sides.
Understanding on investments in the field of digital infrastructure is being sought by both sides, considering digital cooperation as an important element of the partnership.
Various agreements that could be finalized during the visit are currently being discussed by the two sides, according to Kwatra.
India-UAE bilateral relationship has strong ties, dating all the way back to 3,000 BC.
The UAE became a significant investment destination with the opening of an office by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in GIFT City.
Modi was the first Indian PM to visit the UAE in 34 years, paving the way for subsequent visits and expanded cooperation in various spheres, as per ANI reports.
President Al Nahyan was invited on Republic Day as a chief guest in 2017.
India’s support led to the UAE becoming a permanent member of BRICS on 1 January this year and joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as a Dialogue Partner in May last year.
